We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Journal Development Editor to join the global Thieme Science business unit.

Your new passion

  • Supporting the Executive Editor in developing and managing the existing journals’ portfolio, and in new launches or in the acquisition of new international, medical sciences journals.
  • Implementation of journal development plans aligned with our Thieme Science strategy and the journal portfolio strategy.
  • Acquisition of high-quality content via the implementation of journal commissioning plans.
  • Ensuring the journal’s performance along defined targets and KPIs.
  • Organizing, preparing and supporting Editorial Board Meetings.
  • Managing some administrative tasks, e.g. invitations and contracts. 
  • Maintain publishing quality, ethics and standards including but not limited to research integrity and policies.
  • Main contact person for our editors and authors when it comes to managing themed issues and timelines and supporting and steering the editorial office.
  • Conducting market observations and support the Executive Editor in data analysis and reports to secure a data driven approach relevant for managing journals.
  • Enforcing set strategies, setting-up activities and prioritize accordingly with external (Ed Boards) and internal stakeholders (e.g. peer review support, JEO, production and marketing, finance, customer support, sales, P2E2, OA support…).
  • Representing the journal and the Thieme group (after alignment) in an official environment (conferences, meetings, awards, receptions, panel discussions). 
  • Supporting social media activities e.g. managing different media channels, setting up newsletters or updating websites.
  • Working with society partners and supporting their needs and workflows as required.

You inspire us with this

  • PhD or master’s degree preferably in life sciences or medicine
  • 1-2 years’ experience in the international academic publishing industry, ideally in an open access environment, would be desirable
  • Excellent communications skills in English and German language, written and spoken.
  • You have an above-average degree of self-organization as well as sovereign time and schedule management skills
  • Strongly collaborative team worker, comfortable with co-ownership of shared goals and with a high level of personal accountability
  • You have excellent Microsoft Office and other relevant software skills 
  • You are highly motivated and willing and able to travel
